The Huila region is renowned not only for its coffee quality but also for being the first historical department in Colombia to begin coffee production. Farmers in Huila are highly quality-conscious, giving their crops meticulous care and attention. They are often pioneers in adopting new processing and farming methods. The most important municipalities for coffee in Huila include Pitalito, Garzón, Gigante, San Agustín, La Plata, Paicol, and Acevedo, among others.

Huila coffee represents 18% of Colombia's total production. It is consistently in high demand and is frequently preferred as a single-origin offering due to its balanced acidity and sweetness. The Huilan landscape is dominated by volcanoes and mountains, providing rich, high-altitude, fertile soils and offering a wide range of ecosystems for coffee cultivation. Farms in the region are located at elevations ranging from 5,000 to 7,500 feet, imparting notable attributes to the cup profile such as bright acidity and characteristic sweet notes.
